Sites en Ligne est un symposium de sculpture et installation en milieu naturel qui se déroule tous les deux ans dans le bois de Ligne à Silly (Belgique).

La prochaine édition se déroulera du 20 au 26 août 2018

Une trentaine d’artistes ou collectifs, toutes formations, nationalités et expériences confondues, sont invités à réaliser leur projet, dans une des deux disciplines proposées, la taille de tronc et l’installation en milieu naturel.

Les artistes sélectionnés travaillent toute la semaine dans les bois sous le regard de quelques promeneurs déjà curieux du résultat qu’ils découvriront le week-end, lors de l’exposition des réalisations finales.

Durant ce week-end, le public est invité à se balader dans le bois de Ligne pour y découvrir les travaux des artistes et à voter pour les prix du public. Il peut aussi faire une halte au bar champêtre pour s’y reposer, s’y abreuver, y rencontrer les artistes et les personnalités locales ou assister aux activités organisées, concerts, table d’hôtes, feu d’artifice,etc…

Le projet prend racine dans une fête locale, la Plantation du Mai, lors de laquelle un arbre, choisi parmi les plus hauts de la forêt, est érigé au milieu d’un champ, poussé par un effort collectif à l’aide de grandes échelles de bois. Chaque année, l’ asbl Sites en Ligne participe à cet événement et achète le tronc vendu aux enchères, pour l’offrir à ses futurs tailleurs qui raviront les villageois en transformant leur arbre de Mai en sculptures.

Située au milieu des bois, sortant des contextes institutionnels habituels de l’art contemporain, tissant un lien fort avec la tradition populaire, et permettant à chacun de se rencontrer, cette manifestation engendre des affinités entre les acteurs locaux, les artistes, les porteurs du projet et un public très diversifié. Il y règne une atmosphère très conviviale.

Sites en Ligne is a symposium of sculpture and installation in a natural environment, which takes place every two years in the Bois de Ligne in Silly (Belgium).

Next edition will take place from 20th to 28th of august 2018!

Thirty artists and group of artists, from a variety of different education backgrounds, nationalities and experience, are invited to complete their project in one of the two offered disciplines: installation in a natural environment trunk carving.

 The selected artists will be working in the woods all week in the sight of a few walkers by already curious of the resulting pieces they shall discover the following weekend, when the final pieces are shown.

Throughout that weekend, the audience is invited to walk around the Bois de Ligne to discover the artists’ works and vote for the Audience Award. Visitors are also welcome to make a halt at the country bar to rest, have a drink, meet the artists and local figures or attend organized activities such as concerts, table d’hôtes (communal dinners), fireworks, etc…

 The project is based on a local festivity, the Plantation of the May Tree, during which a tree selected amongst the highest of the forest, is erected in the middle of a field, pushed by a collaborative effort using large wooden ladders. Each year, the Sites en Ligne Organisation participates in this event and buys the auctioned trunk in order to offer it to its future carvers who shall delight villagers by turning their May Tree into sculptures.

 Located in the middle of the woods, away from the usual institutional context of contemporary art, forging a strong bond with local traditions and allowing people to meet, this popular event helps create connections between local figures, artists, project holders and a very diverse audience. A very friendly atmosphere prevails.
